Advice to Companies Aiming to List on the National Stock Exchange

Currently, there are 13 registered stock exchanges in the United States. However, the most common exchanges for small-cap and mid-market companies are the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and NYSE American.

Both exchanges have established both quantitative and qualitative listing standards and impose ongoing corporate governance requirements on listed companies.

Although the OTC market is not considered a nationwide exchange, it functions as an auxiliary quotation medium for trading shares of publicly listed companies.

Nasdaq-Listed Tier

Nasdaq has three listing tiers, each with tiered higher listing criteria:

Nasdaq Global Select Market

Companies listed in this market have solid financial structures and strong cash flow.

Nasdaq Global Market

Listed companies meet all Nasdaq standards but do not meet the high standards required to enter the global select market.

Mainly, companies trading long-term debt instruments such as bonds and derivatives are the main targets.

NYSE-Listed Tier

The NYSE has the following listing tiers:

Big Board

The name comes from investors manually monitoring and updating quotes and trading activities at large NYSE board meetings.

NYSE American

It is a financial exchange operating alongside the NYSE, with InterContinental Exchange owning both NYSE American and NYSE ETFs.
